IDEALab — Innovation through Inclusion, Design, Education, and Art is a research project exploring how digital technologies, inclusive design and artistic practice can create more accessible, participatory and meaningful cultural experiences.

The project is developed through a collaboration between MediaLab at the University of Oviedo, PlayLab at the University of Skövde, and the Università degli Studi “G. d’Annunzio” Chieti–Pescara. Together, the three institutions combine expertise in educational innovation, artistic research, design, interactive media, digital storytelling and 3D technologies.

the research question:

How can art and technology contribute to more inclusive, participatory and accessible cultural experiences?

IDEALab approaches artistic creation as a form of research. Through co-design, workshops, technological experimentation and artistic production, the project investigates new ways of experiencing and interacting with art. A particular focus is placed on rural communities and people with limited access to cultural infrastructure, especially in Asturias.

Rather than treating accessibility as something added at the end of a creative process, IDEALab explores how inclusion can be integrated from the very beginning. Its aim is to prototype and evaluate new artistic and educational methods at the intersection of art, design, technology and community participation.

The exhibition is therefore more than a final outcome: it becomes a space for research, experimentation and testing, where ideas and technologies can be explored in real contexts and transformed into knowledge that can be shared and replicated elsewhere.
